You have probably heard of these two charismatic Orishas, ​​the Ibeyis , also known as Jimaguas .

Like any Orisha, it is important, before attending to them and offering them, to know something more about these allies of Changó.

What are the Ibeyis of Ifá

The Ibeyis are the minor Orishas, ​​sons of Changó and Ochún, raised by Yemayá.

These charismatic Orishas are known as the patrons of all children and symbolize fortune, luck and prosperity.

Even, it is believed that they are able to save from death any person who really asks them with faith and entrusts them.

Likewise, it is believed that they protect the walkers, since they are found on all roads and mountains.

These orishas are represented with a pair of twins, which can be a female and a male, two males or two females. Their separate names are Taewo and Kainde.

It is said that Taewo was born first than Kainde, so he has fewer powers than his brother.

In the syncretism, the Jimaguas are compared with San Cosme and San Damián. However, these orishas adopted the name of many other saints: Crispin, Crispina, Santa Justa, Santa Rufina, Santa Serpa and Santa Porfiria.

The number of these orishas is 2 and all their multiples, their colors are red and white and blue and white, and they are greeted with «Ibeyi oro Alakúa oyé oyé mojojó».

Offerings to the Ibeyis

A los Ibeyis les gustan todo tipo de frutas, puedes ofrecerles mamey, guayaba, guanábana, mango, piña o mamoncillo. En cuanto a comida salada, prefieren arroz amarillo o pochoclos.

Se le inmolan pollos y palomas. Y sus ewe son el maíz, el pega pega, el rabo de gato, el sagú, el zapote, la chirimoya y la zarzaparrilla.

Cómo pedirle a los Jimaguas

Puedes ofrecerle frutas o sus ewe en sus dos tinajas pequeñas (apotó). Estas tinajas son decoradas una de rojo y blanco y la otra de blanco y azul.

Estas tinajas las puedes acompañar con dos muñecos pequeños tallados en madera, sentados sobre dos taburetes, unidos por un cordel, uno con un collar de changó y el otro con un collar de Yemayá.

Una vez tengas todos sus atributos y sus ofrendas listas, salúdalos, con mucho respeto pero sobre todo con mucho amor, recuerda que son unos niños. A estos orishas puedes pedirles para tu suerte, para un futuro próspero y para la protección de tus hijos.

Los Jimaguas y los niños

Al ser tan respetados y queridos por Changó, son muchos los babalawos que tienen gemelos y quieren hacerlos Jimagua, ante esto es importante saber que:

• Los papás tendrán que tratarlos a los dos por igual en todo momento, pues es pecado el preferir a uno por sobre el otro.
• Los niños deben ser bautizados el mismo día y deben vestir igual.
• Si uno de los niños muere, los padres deben llevar al otro a donde el padrino para que este impida que el gemelo fallecido se lleve al sobreviviente.
